Heidi Tyline King’s first picture book, Saving American Beach: The Biography of African American Environmentalist MaVynee Betsch, received six stars and was featured on Top Ten and Best of the Best lists including the New York Times, TIME Magazine, American Library Association, Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, School Library Connection, and Booklist, among others. Her next picture book, Flash!, chronicles the firefly research of John Bonner Buck and his groundbreaking discoveries in bioluminescence. A graduate of the University of Alabama, King is the 2023 Alabama Library Association Children’s Author of the Year and winner of the Florida Historical Society’s James J. Horgan Award for a book for young readers on a Florida history topic.
